Hotels told to get licences before building Posted: 20 Jul 2016 12:46 AM PDT Would-be hoteliers who fail to apply for a licence before construction starts will not be permitted to operate, the government has announced. U Myo Win Nyunt, director of the hotel and tourism supervision division of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, told The Myanmar Times yesterday that the ministry's days of turning a blind eye were over. |
Irrigation budget halved in agricultural policy change Posted: 20 Jul 2016 12:31 AM PDT A shift in policy, away from building dams and toward running irrigation channels to farmland, has led to a 50 percent cut in the request for irrigation funding next year, the agriculture ministry says. U Myo Tint Tun, assistant secretary in the ministry, told The Myanmar Times on July 18 that expenditure in 2017-18 would be less than half of this year's level. |
