Is the PS4 console is designed to be connected in a 'permanent' way? What I'm asking is it will need to be connected all the time? And if so, how will this affect plans for PSN? Cerny: PlayStation 4 is not a permanent connection system in that sense, but the experience is much richer if you are connected. You will have access to digital content and the updates for your games, along with a wide range of social functions: upload videos and screenshots, see your friends play and interact with them in various ways within the games.

Get ready to download. TheSixthAxis writes: Those with God Of War Ascension can today in a matter of hours start playing The Last Of Us. Or, rather, a demo of the game, presumably the exact same demo we tested a few weeks back here. Its likely that if it is the same demo youll have a small download and then the game will use the files already present on the God of War disk. In our case we had to grab a downloader and then pull down a few GB from Sonys servers, but hopefully theyre using the content you already have locally. The demo contains two locations and two very different styles of gameplay. Theres no real spoilers other than youll know once the demo ends about one new character and have some idea of Joel and Ellies motivations. Weve been playing the full game for a while now you can expect full details and our review next week. Until then, enjoy the demo!

By Matthew Reynolds Naughty Dog will keep its existing in-house engine used in Uncharted and The Last of Us for the PS4, the developer has revealed. Game director Bruce Straley explained how it won't repeat past mistakes of developing a new engine from scratch for a new console generation, as it did when it started work on Uncharted for the PS3. "We learned a big lesson coming from PS2 to PS3," he told Digital Spy. "There was a lot of hype over what next-gen was going to be. It was all going to be like movies, like a pre-rendered cutscene-style fidelity. "That turned out not to be true. Granted, what we're able to do now is pretty damn close, but it took Naughty Dog four games to get there - one of the top developers in the industry with some on the most amazing scientists working in our programming department."

With the The Last of Us demo release crashing the PSN, the Daily Reaction duo of Seb and Dan discuss why Sony isnt prepared for an always online future with the PS4, and how Microsoft could be shooting themselves in the foot with the Xbox One. - PSLS

"Its no surprise that Microsoft got the wrath of gamers for showing no gameplay footage and once again heavily emphasizing on Kinect and Xbox Ones multimedia and social capabilities. The only thing they did right was showing the box itself. Sony on the other hand showed off the games, the technicalities behind the PS4 architecture but not the console itself."

Eric of VividGamer.com Writes: "While some gamers are still trying to download the demo, we were able to at least get to the download screen before the crash and heres what we know about The Last of Us Demo that unlocks with God of War Ascension."

Videogamer writes: Naughty Dog's latest gets a perfect score in Empire Online review - and yep, it gets the Citizen Kane treatment. The first review of The Last of Us has appeared online ahead of next week's global embargo - and it looks like fans are in for a treat. Naughty Dog's latest is awarded a perfect 5/5 in Empire's review, which claims that the game is an "easy contender for the best game of this console generation". VideoGamer.com's review of The Last of Us goes live next Wednesday, June 5 at 3pm BST. Can't wait until then? Simon's finished it, and he speaks briefly about his experience with the final game in this week's podcast.
